Bonjour Jerusalem - the French “Compound”

In the 19th century adjacent to the walls of the Old City, the French Catholics built several buildings creating their own unique quarter. In order to facilitate the pilgrim's entry into the Old City, they broke through the Old City walls in 1899 and created the New Gate.

The Russian compound is well known in Jerusalem, but there is also a French “Compound”. We will visit the Notre Dame complex and its surprising museum of the Shroud of Turin, before continuing to the St. Louis hospital and the St. Vincent de Paul Chapel.
